The sharp eyed amongst you will have spotted a gap in our beautiful website … namely, that there is very little mention of civil partnerships. So right from the start, can I say that if you are planning your civil partnership, we would be delighted to hear from you and that you’ll receive a very warm welcome.

Our approach to civil partnership photography is exactly the same as for a church wedding or civil ceremony: we’ll sit down with you and listen to the plans you are making for your big day, listen to what’s important and talk through how we can deliver great coverage without taking over the day. We accept commissions across the UK, but especially in Bath, Bristol & the Cotswolds. The initial consultation is absolutely without obligation, so do give us a call.

We would love to have a detailed civil partnership on the gallery but since 2005 when the new civil partnership rules were introduced, we’ve received very few enquiries, which is a great shame. The days we have been involved with have been great fun and a real pleasure, so we would love to do more and have a varied & interesting gallery available to view. So if you are planning your big day, do please check our availability & come and talk to us - it would be great to share your day with you.

Priston Mill Wedding

Congratulations to Shelley & Matt, who married at Priston Mill recently. A wonderful day, not least because it was the sunniest, driest day in what feels the last month! Lots of wonderful details (the sweet shop was brilliant!), lots of smiles and a lovely mix of guests too – a perfect day. It was a real pleasure to share your day with you – congratulations to you both!

Reading through one of the wedding magazines (“Unique Bride” – www.uniquebridemagazine.com) (great magazine, BTW!), I came across what could be the best advice I have heard in ten years of capturing weddings…

“Remind yourself why you’re getting married. Most likely there will be a moment (however fleeting) when you & your husband-to-be are forgotten, as you grow ever consumed by the seating plans and floral arrangements. In which case, its time to take a break from your scrapbook and highlighter pens and refocus your attention on what will make your wedding one of a kind. You. Because you are.”

It is so easy to be swept away by all the planning and to-do lists, which is why we always recommend to couples that maybe two months before the wedding, steal a long weekend somewhere nice and remind each other why you are doing this – it will make the final build up SO much easier!

I’ve been capturing weddings for the past 10 years or more now, and I’m always amazed by just how different every wedding day is, even though by convention, the starting point is pretty much the same. Often it is the attention to detail that help a couple make the day unique – quite simply, it is the details that can become “the icing on the cake” … talking of cakes (did you see what I did there?), the ‘vintage wedding’ themed cake table at the Beechfield House wedding I mentioned yesterday was awesome – best cakes / presentation ever – hats off to Emily – good work! So I’m posting these as inspiration; hope you like them.

Big, big congratulations to Pete & Helen, who got married recently at the very lovely Beechfield House (Wiltshire). Its a dream venue for the wedding photography, because if the weather is bad there are plenty of interesting, well lit rooms inside; if the weather is good, then the grounds are just fab. When I’m capturing a wedding, I’m on the look out for all the details; all the finishing touches that make a bride’s day unique & special… flowers are a very personal choice and I love the simplicity of this bouquet. Captured perfectly with available light, the colours are absolutely stunning – delicate, subtle, a perfect wedding bouquet. When I’m shooting a selection like this, I’m pretty sure only one image will make the album… but as to which one, I really wouldn’t like to guess!

Today, I had the great pleasure of photographing Andy & Nicola’s pre-wedding portraits at the very beautiful Manor House Hotel at Castle Combe – the perfect venue for a Cotswold-style wedding. I’m a great believer that, for the couple, having some time in front of the camera ahead of the wedding day can really help banish nerves and make the photography a genuinely enjoyable part of the overall experience. Andrew Jackson: Weddings Details

I know weddings take place all year round now but it still feels the start of the new wedding season when the daffs start appearing. Spring is my favourite time of year; all the colours are so fresh, the light is clean and bright (perfect for the photographs). It is a perfect time for a wedding or portrait shoot. According to the Office for National Statistics, the number of weddings in England & Wales rose by 3.7% in 2010 – the biggest jump since 2003. In this day and age, there is no need to get married, which makes the commitment so very special.

Anyway, this blog was supposed to be in praise of details; the little touches that make one wedding so very different to the next. These shots are of what can only be described as the best table plan EVER. The couple are widely traveled and had chosen a retro feel for their autumn day wedding at the wonderful Ston Easton Park nr Bath. Hope it inspires some creative thoughts for your special day…
